Cheer-Dance Specialist Program

Our nationally recognised program offers a number of opportunities, with students participating in a wide range of competitions, performances, workshops, and team-building activities. Under the guidance of nationally accredited staff and specialist coaches, students will gain exposure to skills in a range of styles including cheerleading, poms, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and musical theatre. There is a strong focus on team-building and creativity in producing their own choreography, as well as helping to raise healthy and confident young performers.

Drama

In Drama, students are given opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in producing staged public and in-school performances. Performances are developed in class and communication and collaboration are at the forefront of our lessons. Students will experience live theatre, build circus skills, devise short scenes and work with scripts to develop exceptional performances. Skills in performance and critical thinking skills are essential in the contemporary world and we seek to prepare our Drama students for their next steps.

Media Arts

This Media Arts program provides opportunities for students to learn about film production and the making of multiple short films. The courses focus on learning how to use equipment and on building production and editing skills. Students develop practical skills in writing scripts, camera work, lighting and digital editing using iMovie and Adobe Premiere Pro. They also work in a range of genres including documentary, superhero, horror/suspense, music video, podcasts and webisodes and are created both independently and in small groups.

Music

The Specialist Music Program at Safety Bay Senior High School offers students a platform to become creative and grow their passion for music. All students enrolled in the Specialist Music Program participate in classroom music, receive instrumental tuition through IMSS and are part of an ensemble. Music is an engaging program that provides students with the practical and theoretical knowledge for performance, appreciation, and composition of music in all contexts.

In the past, our students have been selected to be part of the OPUS Showcase. Other performance opportunities our Specialist Music students participate in include:

  • Concert Band Festival,
  • Guitar Ensemble Festival,
  • Choir Festival,
  • Safety Bay Senior High School Special Music Showcase

Digital Photography

In Digital Photography students will learn hands-on skills to take professional quality photographs. Starting with the basic DSLR camera settings through to advanced skills and techniques, following into senior school where they can continue to develop their skills in the Design Photography course.

Students learn how to create freeze action shots or create ghost-like effects and to adjust the Aperture to create a small and large depth of field. Students will also learn creative digital manipulation skills using programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and studio photography. Each year students have an opportunity to go on an exciting excursion to put their newfound skills into practice outside the classroom environment.

Visual Art

Students are encouraged to throw away their inhibitions, roll up their sleeves and experience the fulfilment of developing and evolving their own original designs into finished art works using a variety of techniques and processes. Students gain knowledge and abilities to use visual art language and artistic conventions, in both written and practical work. Under the guidance of our talented teachers, who are also practicing artists, students are given the opportunity explore 2D and 3D mediums, with the option to specialise in Year 9 and 10.
