Today, we gathered to commemorate ANZAC Day, a day of profound significance for our nations and our shared history.

For us, here at Safety Bay Senior High School, ANZAC Day holds a special significance.

We remember the lives lost, the hardships endured, and the bonds forged in the crucible of war. We also draw inspiration from their example, knowing that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit can triumph over adversity.

In the words of the Ode of Remembrance, "At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them." Today, and every day, let us honour the memory of the ANZACs by striving to be worthy of their sacrifice. Let us work together to build a future founded on the principles of peace, justice, and mutual respect.

Dear parents, carers and students
As a result of the planned Industrial Action tomorrow by members of the SSTUWA, normal classes will not be running.
Instead students will be expected to undertake independent study under the supervision of school staff.
Students present will be distributed amongst the remaining staff to ensure "duty of care" is provided.
Please note, any student not attending will not be penalised or have their attendance impacted.
Normal classes will resume at 12:30pm, upon the cessation of the Industrial Action.
Also a reminder, the Canteen will not be open on this day.

🏐 In Week 9 of Term 1, the Safety Bay Senior Hi

🏐 In Week 9 of Term 1, the Safety Bay Senior High School Year 10 netball team took home the flag at the Lightning Carnival at Frank Gibson Park.

The team won all but one game (which was a draw) against a number of other schools in the competition and in the end, took the top spot due to goal difference.

Despite the heat, they showed remarkable determination. Congratulations on your win!

We highly encourage all parents/guardians to read through these thoroughly with your children to ensure they are on the right path in the coming years (especially Year 10’s heading into their final years of schooling & achieving their WACE 🎓).

Industrial Action - Teachers' Strike Tuesday 23 April

Dear parents and carers

I am writing to inform you of the impending strike action to be undertaken by the State School Teachers’ Union of West Australia (SSTUWA) on Tuesday the 23rd of April and the impact it will have on our school.

As a school we will endeavour to maintain normal operations however it is also important to note that over 60% of our staff are union members and intend to partake in the industrial action. This strike action will see approximately 50 of our staff attend the rally in Perth on Tuesday morning and not be at school before 12:30pm.

At the start of the day we will collapse all classes and make an assessment on how to best supervise students present. We will continue to provide duty of care, but please be advised that normal classes will not be operating.

The Canteen has also informed us that they will not be operating on this day, so students attending school will be required to bring their own lunch and snacks.

Classes will return to normal at 12:30pm, as all staff involved in the industrial action will be back on site.

I appreciate the impact this will have on some of our families but also acknowledge the support you always show for our staff.

Here at Safety Bay Senior High School, we would love to take the opportunity to acknowledge the amazing achievement of one of our School Captains and Year 12 Politics and Law ATAR student, Ruby Noakes, in being chosen to attend the 29th National School Constitutional Convention (NSCC) in Canberra last term.

Ruby was one of only 15 Year 11 & 12 students chosen to represent WA among the 120 students that attended nationally. The students heard from guest speakers (including Anne Twomey of the University of Sydney and Alan Fenna of Curtin University), worked in groups and presented their argument for or against a referendum question that was posed.

Throughout the fully funded trip, students had the opportunity to go to Government House to meet the Governor General, have dinner at the National Press Club, visit the National Museum of Australia and attend question time at Parliament House.

This is an excellent achievement and Ruby describes it as: ‘a trip that created memories to last forever and will help push me in the right direction for my future.’
