Enhances Literacy Skills

Spelling, grammatical skills, vocabulary extension and written expression are at the core of each English lesson.

Develops Comprehension Skills

Through studying a variety of text types including novels, narratives, poetry, letters, biographies, media texts, documentary and film, students learn about purpose, context and the way audiences are encouraged to respond due to the way language is manipulated for effect.

Improves Written Communication

Students learn about how texts are structured. By engaging with persuasive, interpretative and imaginative texts and their language features, students develop their writing skills to communicate effectively and dynamically. They are also encouraged to interpret information with purpose and organise their ideas in a concise manner backed by evidence.

Enhances Students’ Oral Language Skills

Opportunities to engage in oral communication lead students to be confident speakers and performers.

Engages Critical Thinking

Students are encouraged to challenge and reflect on what they read and view, and to question social and cultural influences in the world around them.

Encourages Reading

The importance and relevance of reading for knowledge, information and for pleasure are promoted in our English classes.
