Mathematics
At SBSHS, we aim to develop your child’s knowledge and abilities across three main Mathematics strands – Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Probability and Statistics.
Your child will be supported to learn, understand, and recall definitions and facts to calculate answers and find solutions. Students explore, adapt and transfer various mathematical strategies, connect different mathematical concepts, and apply Mathematics to the classroom, life situations and the world around them. SBSHS teachers use demonstration or modelling of an approach, guided and independent practice, and a range of tasks, with and without technology, to meet student needs in a safe and supportive environment.
The Importance of Mathematics
Role of Homework in Lower School – Year 7 to Year 10
All lower school students have set weekly homework and it is designed to summarise critical objectives being targeted in class during instruction. Homework is used as a part of a final grade and it should be taken seriously.
Besides homework, parents/carers should encourage their child to study Mathematics at home at least three times a week by revising notes, re-working examples and any material provided to them during class time. To support students at home, students have access to a textbook on Connect for their year level.
