Health and Physical Education
We offer a range of senior school courses which cater both for university bound students and those seeking an alternative pathway to further study or work. Our lower school programs provide elective offerings to supplement the compulsory physical education and health courses based on the West Australian Curriculum.
Our health programs build knowledge and awareness of a range of Health topics including physical and mental wellbeing, resilience and respectful relationships, anti-bullying and nutrition. All programs have an emphasis on harm-minimisation strategies and recognising those who need help and how to support them. In year 10, students undertake the Keys for Life driving education program and have the opportunity to attend outside agency event such as the P.A.R.T.Y safe and RAC BeStreetSmart.
The practical sport and physical activity programs include developing skills and game play in a range of sports, as well as health, fitness and wellbeing based activities. In years 9 and 10, students have more options, with elective courses in Outdoor Pursuits, Recreation for Life and Girls Multisport.
Senior school Certificate II courses include the opportunity to gain accredited qualifications in first aid, coaching and officiating.
In addition to these courses, we are dedicated to providing opportunities outside the classroom. As well as holding our own annual school athletics carnival, the school participates in inter-school sports carnivals and School Sport WA competitions connected to all year groups across a range of sports. We also offer the extra-curricular Bushrangers Cadets program to students of all year groups.
Attached to the department is also one of the leading Specialist Football (Soccer) Programs in WA and one of only 4 Perth Glory Academy Schools. This highly successful and respected program has produced numerous successful players and coaches both in Australia and internationally.
The Safety Bay Senior High School Health and Physical Education learning programs and extra-curricular activities offer students immediate rewards, as well as lifestyle options and life skills that they can take with them into the community and their adult lives.
