The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicked off in Australia and New Zealand last month, with 5 matches to be played in Perth.
In celebration, Minister Dr. Tony Buti MLA and Football West announced a range of activities and events for students to engage with the tournament as we celebrate a spectacular showcase of women’s sport in our own backyard.
The inaugural flagship event – Women’s World Cup Aspiration Day – was hosted by Safety Bay Senior High School in recognition of its strong female Specialist Football Program.
The event saw female students from 5 different Perth high schools attend Safety Bay Senior High School to participate in a day full of empowerment-focused football activities, in celebration of the impact of women in sport.
The students competed in teams made up of athletes from each school in small-sided football games, developed skills with coaches from Football West, and learnt mindfulness with Courtney Hahipene from In School Yoga Pert
The students also heard from trailblazers like Ann Gourley, National Female Football Coach of the Year, and Donna Douglas, former captain of Manchester United.
The program was supported by Football West and Department of Education, Western Australia.
