As we wind up the first week of Term 1 in the first year of the new decade we wanted to take a moment to let you know of some changes to our school leadership.
We are very pleased to congratulate our former Principal Alen Kursar on being appointed to a new role as Principal Advisor with the Department of Education’s Leadership Institute for Semester 1.
In his place our Senior School Deputy Principal here at Safety Bay Senior High School, Anne Hudson-Brown will be stepping into the Principal role for the next six months.
Our English and Languages Head of Learning Area, Avril Lee will take on the Senior School Deputy Principal position during this time.
Mrs Hudson-Brown said she is looking forward to a fresh challenge in taking on the role of Principal.
“This is a fresh challenge for me, and I look forward to the continued creation of stronger links with our students and their families, along with the wider Safety Bay community.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Kursar and wish him every success in his new role as Principal Consultant. We know his presence around the school will be sorely missed by both our staff and students.
“It is a pleasure to lead such a great team of people here at Safety Bay as we support all of our students to attend every day, uphold the values of ‘The Safety Bay Way’ and unlock their full potential.
“My background is in Student Services so this is a great opportunity to put the health and wellbeing of all our students at the forefront of everything we do so that we continue to support every student, in every classroom, every day,” Mrs Hudson-Brown said.

This notification popped up and all I could see was “Meet our new Principal” 😱😱😱 WHAAAAT?? Noooo, not Mr Kursar?! 😫
You had such a great rapport with the students, staff and parents, it was always a pleasure to have a chat with you Alen. Congratulations and best wishes for your new endeavours.
Now… Miss Hudson-Brown, PHEW!!! Thank goodness the role is being filled by another approachable, understanding, authoritative person 😅 All the best for your new role and I hope you’ll consider extending your 6 month tenure. I think all the students will feel comfortable with the transition.
Hopefully, if the role ever needs filling in the future, Maggie Speelman will step up to the plate. Another awesome leader within Safety Bay SHS, who can build a rapport with students and impress parents alike.
Anyway…. thank you all. All the best.
Congratulations Alen, you will be missed. I wish you well in your new position. You are leaving the school in very capable hands.
Congratulations Mr Kursor. I personally believe you have been the best principal at this school. You have always been approachable to the parents and fair and firm to the students. It is the schools loss and i wish you every success in your new venture.
Congratulations to all concerned, wishing you a great 2020. I am legal guardian to my grandson and have had the pleasure of knowing Mr Kursar for the past 3 years, wishing him well in his new position he certainly deserves it.
